Education is one of the most powerful tools to ensure people can meaningfully participate in society. It can lift people out of poverty, reduce inequality and ensure sustainable development. Yet, in South Africa millions of people are not able to access quality education. Almost half of all young people in the country are not in employment, education or training, making them vulnerable to lifelong poverty.
Vela Trust is an impact-driven, non-profit trust incubated by the NetEd Group, an investment group combining private higher education institutions to develop the potential of private higher education in Africa. By catalysing new possibilities for higher education and mobilising the needed resources, we are working to open the doors of learning.

We work with our higher education partners to provide bursaries, holistic student support and employability initiatives to enable graduates to find meaningful work. We also offer holistic bursary management services.
Collaborating with a wide range of organisations, we support the implementation of future-of-work programmes to inspire entrepreneurship and innovation and empower young people with the skills they need for the ever-changing world of work.
We drive collaboration, connecting young people with industry and business with higher education. Knowledge building and sharing are also key parts of our approach.
